IRS powered Employment Verifications
WorkProof is a Consumer Consented employment verification product that will allow the IRS to deliver the consumer's W2 transcript directly to the deverus Verocity system.
A CRA requires no special account creation or management of clients who wish to utilize this service. There are no contracts and no third party companies that a CRA needs to worry about.
The consumer will be required to log into the government-owned ID.ME website to provide consent via their digital wallet. For more information on the government digital wallet, please click the link below:
https://www.id.me/about
After consent is provided by the consumer, their W2 Transcript will automatically be attached to the report, ready to be reviewed in the Quality Assurance queue.
*NOTE* The following workflow is our Minimal Viable Product version. Meaning, we have several key improvements planned for a Full Feature version. Due to development costs and timeline, we want to provide this MVP version as soon as possible while deverus plans for further development to expand on this process and workflow.
W2 Transcript Data:
The W2 Transcript will include the truncated employer name, employer address, subject name, subject address and other W2 relevant information. The Transcript will not contain start date, end date, and role. Unlike other costly employment verification providers, the WorkProof verification solution may still provide great value to customers that may not need those exact details.
Validity of Data:
Unlike solutions that require a consumer to provide payroll records themselves, the WorkProof integration pulls data directly from the IRS. There is no room for a consumer to manipulate data as it is transferred to the Verocity system. Unlike other employment verification products, there is no employer network that this product relies on. Any employed person that files taxes should have W2 Transcript information available.
Value / Cost:
Unlike solutions costing two or three times as much, the deverus WorkProof product can deliver great value. The first iteration of this integration will be offered with a default option to provide 5 years of W2 Transcript Data for $30.00, per subject.
Future planned iterations of WorkProof may offer the ability for a CRA to define the years to search by client and client type. The maximum value to pull W2 records from the IRS is 10 years.
*NOTE* There is no charge for failed submissions. There is only a charge when the taxpayer successfully has a transcript consent request generated. Whether they reject or approve it, it still has a charge but there are none for failed submissions.
Ease of Use:
WorkProof only requires a consumer to log into one portal, their government digital wallet, and provide consent with a few clicks of a button.
Workflow
When an employment verification search is ordered, and admin user must only resubmit the search to the WorkProof researcher.
WorkProof will email and text ( if phone number is provided) the subject with instructions to release consent via their digital wallet on the IRS website.
When consent is granted, the automation will add the transcript to deverus system. And the search will automatically be sent to Quality Assurance.
*NOTE* The W2 Transcript will only be available for viewing in the Admin module. The HR client and consumer will not have access to the transcript.
Consumer Experience
A consumer will need to log into their ID.ME digital wallet to provide consent. As soon as their consent is provided, their W2 transcript will automatically be provided through the integration.
First, a consumer will receive an email that looks similar to this:
Once clicking the link, the consumer will automatically be sent to a sign-in page on ID.ME:
Once signed in, the consumer will automatically arrive on the Authorizations tab of their ID.ME account:
W2 Transcript Examples attached.
Error Handling and SSN Validation
The W2 Transcript, provided by ID.ME, supplied through the IRS, includes a node that can provide a 'Correct SSN' response. When an employment verification search is assigned to WorkProof, deverus first requests ID.ME to create a transcript consent request with the IRS.
The IRS reviews subject information ( First Name, Last Name, DOB, SSN, Address, etc ) to clear it against what they have on file for that SSN. If the IRS receives subject information that does not match the SSN, the IRS will deny the transcript request and the search will be resubmitted to a default researcher.
*NOTE* It is important to note that to create an ID.ME digital wallet, the subject needs to submit front/back images of their ID + a selfie image. Between the identity validation that the ID.ME digital wallet runs, and the IRS matching info to the SSN, they are able to provide a result to the W2 WHC SSN Validation Code.
When the IRS denies a transcript request, the activity history will update to indicate that the submission has Failed.
A common reason for a submission to fail will be due to mismatching candidate information tied to that SSN. An example of this may be for a provided address that is not the address from which that SSN filed their most recent tax return from.
deverus is actively working to expand on this error handling capability to improve your ability to sell and support this product.
